The 1948 Arab-Israeli War (known in Egypt as “Nakba” or the War of Independence) marked the first large-scale military confrontation between the newly established State of Israel and a coalition of Arab nations, including Egypt, Transjordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. Egyptian forces entered Palestine on 15 May 1948, advancing along the coastal plain toward Tel Aviv.
